Trails End Popcorn Sale
The major fundraiser for Cub Scout Packs and Boy Scout Troops is the annual Trails-End Popcorn Sale. The scouts of Pack 6 sold almost $5000 worth of popcorn and raised over $1700 for the pack! And they learned valuable salesmanship skills and confidence in dealing with the public.
We also want to thank Magic Beans for supporting our Show-and-Sell events.

Camping Trip to Nobscot Reservation

At the cabin
We had a great fun campout at Nobscot Scout Reservation in Sudbury the weekend of Sat June 12 & Sun. June 13. Despite the dampness and some drizzle the boys rose to the challenge and hiked to Tippling Rock, climbed a glacial erratic (a big rock left by glaciers), saw frogs and toads, pumped their own water and slept in tents or the cabin. We were still able to have a campfire and cook hamburgers and hot dogs over it. For dessert, many marshmallows were toasted and s'mores consumed. We had songs, stories and skits; watching the campfire from the relatively dry cabin porch. Cubmaster Eric whipped up pancakes and eggs for breakfast, and like good scouts we tried to leave our campsites cleaner than we found them.
Some pictures here, I'll try to get more up.

Museum of Science Sleepover
This April, Pack 6 slept overnight at the Museum of Science with hundreds of other Cub Scouts from all over New England. We saw some incredible demonstrations of forces and lightning. We learned about the effects of space on bodies and tried our hand at designing space suits. We built Rube Goldberg machines. We slept in an exhibit hall with some incredible environmental artwork ("Running the Numbers", by Chris Jordan). And we explored the museum and saw an IMAX movie about coral reefs. What an experience!

Pinewood Derby!
Pack 6 held our Pinewood Derby Saturday March 13. The boys worked hard building some really nice cars and we had a day of exciting racing on our new track! Thanks to John Graham and Pete Mulford for assembling the track and timer and setting up the software, and also Cara Murray, Julie Jampel and Anne Bruntrager for their help making this a fun event! Pack 6 Annual Blue & Gold Dinner
Pack 6 held our annual Blue & Gold banquet Feb 27 at Church of Our Savior with songs, skits and a potluck dinner.
The Blue & Gold is a Cub Scout tradition that marks the anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). The BSA was founded by Chicago publisher William Boyce on February 8, 1910. That means that this year Scouting is 100 years old!
Den leader John Graham has researched the long history of Scouting in Brookline and presented a slide show of fascinating facts and pictures he found in the Troop 6/Pack 6 archives. Did you know Church of our Savior even once sponsored a Sea Scout ship in Boston Harbor?

Cub Scouts Help With Cleanup at Hall's Pond Sanctuary

Our Webelos Den 5 and several other scouts, under the leadership of Den Leader Serge participated in the Brookline Greenspace Alliance Community Work Day at Hall's Pond Sanctuary on Sunday, Nov 22. The scouts cleared paths, picked-up trash and moved huge piles of leaves. This good turn helped the community and the animals and plants protected at the Sanctuary!
An important part of Cub Scouting is teaching our sons the importance of helping those in need in our community. At our November pack meeting, we brought in donation of food items for the Brookline Food Pantry. Scouts then delivered the donations to the Food Pantry at St. Paul's Church, helped sort the items and learned about how the food pantry helps those among us who are not fortunate enough to always be able to buy food for their families.
Pack 6 Camping Trip
Several boys and dads attended Pack 6's first camping trip July 18-19! We stayed in a cabin overlooking a pond at Nobscot Scouting Reservation. After setting up we hiked to Tippling Rock where we had a terrific view all the way to Boston. Cubmaster Eric cooked dinner over the fire, we had s'mores then skits and singing around the campfire!
